Crossing the Kukul ridge

The route starts near the Zarosliak checkpoint, on the road to the Zarosliak tourist base. Formally this is Vorokhta, but you need to get from the town to the checkpoint separately. It is difficult to reach by public transport. At the entrance to the Carpathian National Nature Park there is a checkpoint; entry is paid. Further on, the route climbs onto the Kukul ridge and passes through the Zakukol and Kukul polonynas. The highest point of the crossing is Mount Kukul, 1540 m. There are several places for tents on the ridge, including near the Kukul polonyna. Along the way there are farm buildings, but you should not count on spending the night in them. Water can be collected near the Kukul, Pid-Berdy and Bukovynka polonynas. The spring under the spruce on Kukul was barely flowing in August 2025, so it is better not to rely on it for your water supply. Near Pid-Berdy there is a level spot for tents, with a spring nearby. Further on, the route goes through Verkh-Debry and descends into Lazeshchyna. You can plan an overnight stay on the ridge, at one of the spots near the springs.
